[S3E4] The Demon's Blood
Lilith doesn't just possess these Mundanes, she turns them into demons to get their blood. There has to be a reason why the demons are so fixated on killing someone close to them. And why the genetic makeup of the Mundanes have to be turned into demons for the ritual spell to work.
[S3E4] The Demon's Blood
In a way, it's interesting to note that the blood drive attendant was the first vampire victim we've had since Heidi was killed by a vampire. The cycle of transformation kept going with this series of events.
The small vial that Dorian gave to Sabrina would not be enough for the entire coven to drink, but Hilda had the idea to mix it in an anointing oil for them to use as they bathed in the light of the Hare Moon that night. The moon would activate the power in the celestial blood as their skin absorbed it.
Ruby begins training Sam in using his demonic abilities to exorcise (and later, kill) demons,[8] and continues to do so in secret following Dean's resurrection by the angel Castiel in the fourth season premiere.[9][10][11] The episode "On the Head of a Pin" reveals that she is feeding Sam her demonic blood to boost his powers,[12] and by "The Rapture", he has become addicted to drinking her blood.[13][14] In the following episode "When the Levee Breaks", Sam and Dean have a heated confrontation over Sam's trust in her and the negative influence she has on him, leading to a vicious fight which ends in Sam strangling Dean and Dean severing ties with Sam.[14] In the season finale "Lucifer Rising", Ruby insists that she and Sam must murder a demonically-possessed woman despite the woman being alive and pleading for them to let her go, as Ruby argues that Sam needs to also drink the woman's blood in order to be able to kill Lilith; Sam eventually agrees. In the episode's climax, Ruby keeps Dean from interfering while Sam succeeds in killing Lilith. Afterward, Ruby reveals that she is a double-agent working for Lilith who has just tricked Sam into setting the demons' revered god Lucifer free with Lilith's death. With Sam's help, she is killed by Dean with her own knife.[15]
This episode provides examples of: Adaptation Expansion: Especially Veronica, who turns out to be the woman who has had a discharge of blood for twelve years. Her story gets just a few verses in each of Mark and Luke's gospels.
Against My Religion: The Jews in the synagogue cannot help repair the contaminated cistern on Shabbat.
Peter cannot accept a drink from Gaius' flask.
Bear Hug: Big James gives Little James one after Little James heals a lame man.
Boring Religious Service: Zebedee points out that James and John usually fidgeted and chatted in synagogue because they found it boring.
The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: Little James heals a lame man. Little James sets aside the man's cane, heals him, and then stands using his own walking staff for support.
Collapsed Mid-Speech: Nili (the daughter of Jairus) is cooking with her mother when she suddenly collapses. Her mother initially assumes Nili dropped the knife and spoon because she wanted to measure the cumin differently.
Commonality Connection: Meeting at the contaminated cistern late at night, Simon and Gaius connect over shared experiences: not wanting to speak with one's boss, familiarity with sailing knots, and marital discord.
Culture Clash: The Romans think the Jews should drag every able-bodied person from their worship hall to start fixing the contaminated cistern. The Jews are worshipping and cannot work on Shabbat, which was what the Romans expected. Roman official: So Rome will fix your cistern and make your lives possible.
While discussing ways to finance the ministry, Mary Magdalene again suggests the possibility of selling Tamar's jewelry. Tamar explains that it is not just jewelry, that she wears it to honor her ancestors. Mary Magdalene mistakenly assumes it's a form of ancestor-worship, which wouldn't be befitting for a worshipper of God. The end result is tension.
Deliberately Monochrome: The pre-credit scenes show the disciples on their missionary journey in black and white.
Don't Sneak Up On Me Like That!: Simon returns home early and sneaks up behind Eden as she prepares their home to host the disciples, leading to this.
How Is That Even Possible?: Eden's response upon learning that Veronica has had a discharge of blood for twelve years.
Hypocrite: When the disciples are describing their experiences, Big James points out that he said things he doesn't comprehend or live by. Big James: I felt like a fraud.
Insistent Terminology: Meeting Gaius at the contaminated cistern late at night, Simon addresses him as "Officer." Gaius insists on being addressed by his correct title: Primi.
It Tastes Like Feet: Tamar spits out Zebedee's olive oil and says it's rancid. Mary Magdalene describes the flavor as "mold, something between black pepper and vinegar."
Misery Poker: Mary Magdalene and Tamar engage in this briefly, each pointing out that the other doesn't know what she's been through.
Multi-Part Episode: "Clean, Part 1" is followed by "Clean, Part 2".
Obviously Not Fine: Both Simon and Andrew ask Eden if she's okay. She says she's fine.
O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Zebedee wonders what happened on James and John's missions, because they are not fidgeting and chatting in synagogue as they usually do. Zebedee: I'm on to you two. Something's up.
Pragmatic Hero: Zee has no problem using his combat training to subdue and physically restrain a possessed man while paired up with Matthew.
Scene of Wonder: Several of the disciples have this response during the opening montage, staring in wonder after they've healed someone or exorcised a demoniac.
Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Supplies to fix the contaminated cistern could take weeks to arrive from Rome, so Rabbi Yussif orders the supplies from his family's construction business in Jerusalem.
Significant Wardrobe Shift: Since the first episode of season 1, Matthew has worn the same elegant tunic (or one of several nearly identical elegant tunics). In this episode, he appears in a more common tunic (similar to those worn by other disciples) for the first time.
When Simon encounters Gaius at the contaminated cistern, Gaius is not wearing his armor/uniform, showing that he is becoming more approachable and human.
Two Words: Added Emphasis: Gaius advises Peter that if his trouble at home has anything to do with his wife, that he should get used to saying five words: "You are right; I'm sorry."
Wham Line: The Cliffhanger where Jairus' wife screams his name.
Geddoudahere! And for sure, they bonded over that (probably while Sam was at Stanford innocently smoking oregano). Now, I have this image of Ritchie dragging Dean around on the subway late at night, and germaphobe Dean would cringe at the crush of people and touching the grab bars. I love how Dean is fine with monster blood and guts but when it comes to pay phones (or I imagine subway cars) he is so offended.
At the same time, Harvey returns to find Roz turned into a statue resembling the ones he found in the carnival tent. The witches and warlocks arrive at the academy and find their beds full of snakes. They also find the pagans outside who claim that the old gods are returning and implore them to join in worshiping them. As they disappear, we see Agatha has become insane and Dorcas is now a statue. The episode ends with Zelda deciding to free the dark lord, given they have little choice. As she heads down, she finds a bloody Nick on the floor with green liquid coming out of his eyes.
When asked where Paddy calls home, his response can be no other. Ah, Collingwood. Ties that bind. "You're famous in Collingwood," he declares. Hometown girl turned rich, badass detective with a golden gun. Of course she's bloody famous! But more than anything else, he feels like he can trust her because they come from the same place. Paddy's brother is missing and we learn that they both are homeless. Paddy seems resilient - he's had to be to survive - but Dot takes this notion quite hard. Here, we get an inkling of just how sheltered Dot has been. She was not born into wealth and the family would have certainly had to scrimp (according to Lola, their mother could never afford a new dress) but, it's clear that Dot did not suffer as these children do. You can almost see why Hugh wanted to keep his secret from her.
Oh, good, another freestyle motorcross game! That's sarcasm. We've got to think that another extreme action sports game at this point in the Xbox's lifecycle has to be running on fumes. But then Crusty Demons comes along, which runs on something completely different: pure human blood!
The titular Demons are a bunch of moto-x daredevils who inconveniently die during a big trick, only to find themselves spared and courted by Satan himself. Pull off gnarly flips, jumps, kicks and handstands and Ol' Hickory will make you his personal champion. Or something. All that really matters is that Satan's a sadist, so you get points for not only completing your stunt challenges but also for colossally botching them. Broken bones, pints of blood, the distance can skid on the ground and leave a blood trail behind - these, too, offer rewards, complete with slow-mo instant-replay tally screens. It's sick, it's twisted and yeah, we like it.
In Polis, Lexa is teaching Aden how to fight. Titus and Clarke haven't managed to talk her out of fighting yet. Lexa introduces Aden as the most promising nightblood and Aden pledges his allegiance to the thirteenth clan. Clarke tries to convince Lexa not to fight but Lexa says that if she does die, her spirit will choose wisely.
In the Ice Nation, Clarke visits Nia and says that she has changed her vote. Nia is impressed and says that Clarke is thinking like a leader. Nia says she will protect the sky people as she dislikes Lexa, not them. Clarke makes a blood oath and nearly poisons Nia with the knife, but Ontari notices. Nia cuts Ontari's hand and drips Ontari's blood, which is black onto Clarke's face. In Polis, Lexa explains that black blood is from nightbloods. All nightbloods should have been taken to Polis to be trained. Titus tried to convince Lexa to choose a champion but she still refuses. 041b061a72
