Brand policies — how Rolex and others react to the flood of replicas, and whether new laws are being pushed.

I’ve always wondered how brands like Rolex actually deal with the whole replica scene. It seems like the replicas just keep getting better every year, but I don’t really hear about big crackdowns or changes in the law. You’d think they’d go all-in trying to stop it, but maybe it’s not worth the fight anymore? I saw someone at work wearing what was clearly a clone, and no one even noticed. Are brands losing control of the market, or are they just ignoring it now?

From what I’ve seen, they definitely try — but it’s like fighting the tide. The quality of modern clones has gone way up, especially the ones modeled after the Perfect replica Rolex GMT-Master II Factories like VS and Clean are on another level, and the production scale is global now. The laws exist, but most enforcement happens at import or customs level, not against individual buyers. I think Rolex knows it’s impossible to eliminate replicas entirely, so they focus on marketing their brand prestige instead.
