Ampeg SVX ED 14: A Bass Amp Modelling Plug-in for Mac and PC
If you're looking for a way to get the sound of classic Ampeg bass amps and cabinets without breaking the bank or your back, you might want to check out Ampeg SVX ED 14, a bass amp modelling plug-in from IK Multimedia. Ampeg SVX ED 14 is based on the same technology as AmpliTube 2, IK Multimedia's popular guitar amp plug-in, but it's dedicated to recreating the tones of four Ampeg bass amplifiers, six Ampeg cabinets and a choice of six microphones. You can also add up to six stomp effects, including two Ampeg pedals, to shape your sound further.

Ampeg SVX ED 14 works as a plug-in for VST, AU and RTAS hosts on both Mac OS and Windows platforms. You can use it for recording, mixing or live performance, as long as you have a compatible host application. The plug-in comes with a USB iKey for protection, which requires online registration and allows you to install the software on multiple machines.
The four Ampeg amps modelled in Ampeg SVX ED 14 are the SVT Classic, B15R Portaflex Flip Top, BA500 and SVT4 Pro. These cover a wide range of styles and sounds, from vintage warmth to modern punch. The six Ampeg cabinets are the 8x10" SVT-810E, 4x10" SVT-410HLF, 1x15" B-15R Portaflex Flip Top, 2x10" BA500, 4x10" + 1x15" SVT-4PRO and 1x12" B-12XT Portaflex. You can mix and match any amp and cabinet combination to create your own custom rig. The six microphones are the AKG D112, Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421, Neumann U87, Electro-Voice RE20 and AKG C414. You can adjust the mic position and distance to fine-tune the tone and ambience.
The stomp effects in Ampeg SVX ED 14 include an analogue-style chorus/vibrato, an analogue-style delay, a compressor based on a vintage model used extensively on bass guitar, an envelope filter, a bass wah and a volume pedal. You also get two Ampeg pedals: the SPC-OCT octaver and the SCP-OD overdrive. These can add some extra depth and grit to your sound. You can have up to six pedals running at a time, arranged on a virtual pedalboard with simulated wooden floor.
Ampeg SVX ED 14 also comes with a tuner module that can tune your bass automatically or manually. You can choose between standard or chromatic tuning modes, and adjust the reference pitch from 430Hz to 450Hz.
Ampeg SVX ED 14 is a very versatile and easy to operate bass amp modelling plug-in that covers all the normal musical genres and a few more besides. If you can't or don't wish to mic bass amps while recording, this is probably as close as you'll get to the same sound using a plug-in. It also gives you the flexibility to experiment with different amp and cabinet combinations without having to lug around heavy gear. And if you're a fan of Ampeg bass gear, you'll love having access to some of their best models in digital form.
Ampeg SVX ED 14 is available from IK Multimedia's website for $129.99 USD / â99 EUR / Â79 GBP. You can also download a free demo version that works for 10 days with full functionality. 0efd9a6b88
